Internode launches ADSL service for $50 a month

South Australian based ISP Internode has launched its personal ADSL service in Adelaide, regional South Australia, Darwin and Alice Springs, with prices starting at $49.95 a month to residential customers.

Internode was able to fire up the service after the ACCC (Australian Consumer and Competition Commission) forced Telstra to change its wholesale pricing structure, deeming it prohibitive to uptake.

"Now it's affordable, so we're not wasting any time in becoming the first company to deliver this in South Australia," said Simon Hackett, Internode managing director.

Internode Personal ADSL will be available in Sydney, Melbourne, regional NSW and regional Victoria in April. However, Internode said it is taking orders now to meet the anticipated high demand in these areas.

With Telstra having recently raised its broadband prices to around $80 a month, Internode makes a good commercial case for subscribers to join its service.

In addition, because the ADSL service allows users to be online while making and receiving phone calls, Internode says serious Internet consumers will recoup most of their costs by eliminating the need for a second line rental of $19.90 and phone calls costing 25 cents each.

"Broadband access is the future because it delivers the Internet the way it should be," said Hackett. "We want to liberate people from the tedium of the modem with the affordability of our Internode Personal ADSL service."
