NewSat partners take plaudits at ATUG awards

 • 25 March, 2008 11:35

Two of NewSat Limited’s (ASX:NWT) partners took honours at the Australian Telecommunication Users Group (ATUG) 2008 annual Awards in Sydney this month.

Project Manager of the Year was awarded to Mr Anson Cheng, Project Manager – Office of Science Technology and Innovation, Department of Industry and Resources, Western Australian Government, for his management of the Kimberley Broadband Communication Project which is being implemented by NewSat as the prime contractor.

This ambitious NewSat satellite and Wimax solution to 16 remote towns and three national parks in the Kimberley in the far north west of the nation is being seed-funded by both the Western Australian Government and the Australian Government through the Department of Broadband Communications and the Digital Economy (formerly DCITA).

Since the awarding of the contract to NewSat late last year, technical proof of concept trials have been successfully staged and the project is moving into installation phase.

Sydney-based, ISPhone, another application partner of NewSat, was Highly Commended by ATUG judges for its VoIP solution for Small Business.

ISPhone forms part of the technical and billing solution for NewSat’s new business-quality VoIP product which has recently been revamped and re-released to the market by NewSat.

Aimed at the mining, oil and gas industries as well as government clients, this robust VoIP solution is testament to ISPhone and NewSat’s close co-operation to develop technically superior products.

“We congratulate our colleagues at the Department of Industry and Resources, especially Anson Cheng, and at ISPhone on their success this year at the ATUG awards,” said Mr Adrian Ballintine, CEO NewSat Limited.

“Working in concert with quality operators to produce industry leading results has been a strategy of NewSat’s for some time.

“Last year NewSat won similar awards at the ATUG event when we were honoured for our role in the development of precision farming techniques by satellite together with the Victorian Government’s Spatial Information Unit.
“NewSat looks forward to producing further leading applications and services to the communications industry and engaging in collaborative programmes where the client benefits from the combined efforts of NewSat and its operational partners,” he said.
