321 Appoints Conexus As Exclusive Australian Distributor

Consumer interest in DVD burners continues to gain pace as Conexus adds 321 Studios' unique DVD backup and recovery software to its portfolio

SYDNEY – 20 October 2003 – St Louis, US-based 321 Studios today announced its full support for Australian retailers through an exclusive alliance with a leading local distributor, Conexus. Consumer interest in DVD burners is surging, and this appointment will ensure that retailers and consumers across the country have unparalleled access to 321 Studios’ range of DVD backup and recovery software.

321 Studios’ DVD X Copy series software allows consumers to protect their investment in DVD movies by creating backups for personal use. The company’s products and policies include strong measures to guard against illegitimate use, including a disclaimer at the beginning of the copied movie, a non-visible watermark in all DVD copies, and a block on copying any disc other than an original. As litigation against software innovators continues on a global scale, 321 Studios will strengthen its battle for the public’s right to make “fair use” copies of their digital media using DVD backup and recovery software.

“We selected Conexus as our Australian distributor because we needed a partner that truly understood DVD technology, the retail sector, and the immense value in being able to protect your investment in DVD movies,” said Rob Semaan, the Sydney-born and raised CEO of 321 Studios. “Any retailer in Australia who is ready to sell the ultimate DVD backup and recovery software should give Conexus a call.”

“A few years ago, we saw that DVD was going to strike our shores like a tidal wave, so we began distributing DVD burners and digital video products,” said David Murray, Managing Director of Conexus. “Now, 321 Studios is taking DVD software in an extraordinary new direction, by allowing customers to backup and repair these fragile discs. DVD burners will be the must-have peripheral this Christmas, and our mission will be to turn every one of them into a backup system – thanks to software from 321 Studios.”

Ludovic Milet, Research Director with the IT division of GfK Marketing Services Australia, reports that the number of PCs sold through the retail channel that include built-in DVD burners has surged. In the 12 months until October 2003, the proportion was 12%, in the June-to-August period it was 15%, and in the three months until October it was 20%. Noting a similar trend, Murray says that Conexus is on track to ship 150% more external DVD burners in the second half of 2003 than it did in the first. "This breathtaking growth is well over what the industry expected," says Murray.

Conexus is headquartered in Sydney and has an office in Melbourne. DVD Copy Gold will retail for $260, and DVD X Copy Xpress Backup for $140. Retailers seeking product or support should contact Conexus on 02 9975 2799, 03 9328 1277, sales@conexus.com.au or www.conexus.com.au. Customers requiring support should contact 321 Studios Australia on 02 9451 9460 or sales@321studios.com.au.

It’s easy to set up, it’s compact and quiet when printing and to top if off, the print quality is excellent. This is hands down the best printer I’ve used for printing labels.
