LANSA makes first sales of InsureIT Insurance Solution in Asia-Pacific

 • 07 March, 2006 15:04

LANSA has signed a partnership agreement with MDC Information Systems, based in Dublin, Ireland, authorizing it to market, resell and implement MDC’s InsureIT portfolio of software products in the Asia-Pacific region.

InsureIT is an e-Commerce and Quotation Management framework for general and life insurance. It provides insurance companies and brokers with a fast, efficient and easy way to build web-enabled insurance products. Insurers can develop an interactive web presence which links in real time to their back-office policy administration system, for example to process accepted quotes as new business. A sophisticated rating engine is also provided, together with the option to link to external rating engines if required.

Flowing from the agreement LANSA has acquired its first Australian InsureIT customer, Territory Insurance Office (TIO) in Darwin, who plans to use InsureIT for its TIOweb project. The first products to be web-enabled by TIO will be Motor and Home & Contents.

LANSA’s market research indicates that e-Commerce take-up is less prevalent in the Australian and Asian insurance markets than in other markets. Furthermore, a surprising proportion of web-based quotation implementations are stand-alone, and require response to system-generated emails or re-keying of quotes generated from an independently maintained rating engine. This style of offering requires duplicate data entry and introduces delays not experienced in a fully integrated solution.

Another issue with some current solutions is that they are suited either to direct input from consumers or to indirect business from brokers and agents but not both. InsureIT on the other hand allows insurers to connect with both customers and channels to market, and also offers special facilities for call-center, staff and management access.

Gordon Davies, LANSA’s vice president Asia Pacific, said of the new partnership, "A web presence should not only be attractive but also efficient for customers to use and easy to align and integrate with an insurer’s back-end systems. MDC has a wealth of experience in meeting these challenges which it has embedded in its InsureIT product as intellectual property. We are confident that InsureIT provides a platform for insurers to create an imaginative and effective web presence, and look forward to many engagements in the industry in consultation with MDC."

InsureIT has been developed entirely with the LANSA set of development and integration tools and hence MDC has been a long-time solution partner of LANSA in Europe.

Mike Dunnion, managing director of MDC, said, "We believe that the Internet presents an opportunity to radically improve how insurance companies do business. We are excited to work with LANSA to jointly explore the opportunities in the Asia Pacific region."
