Toshiba teams with Nokia and Telstra on GPRS

Toshiba's latest mobile computing initiative is a joint project resulting in the release of Australia's first GPRS-enabled laptop PC.

The bundle combines a Toshiba TE-2100, a Nokia D211 GPRS card, and a Telstra SIM card. With all three working together, the laptop can access the Internet or a LAN anywhere there's a wireless network or anywhere there's a GSM signal.

The TE-2100 is Toshiba's best-selling notebook, and features a 1.6MHz Mobile Pentium 4 with 256MB of RAM, a 16MB Nvidia graphics chipset and a 30GB hard drive. It also features a DVD drive and a wireless antenna integrated into the lid. The GPRS system is ideal for constant connectivity as its billing model is based on data throughput, not connection time. Toshiba believes the solution is suitable for roaming sales staff and other mobile professionals.

The bundle has a retail price starting at $4,015, and is available through Toshiba's Mobile Plus resellers.
