Productivity is no-problem with Toshiba’s new range of Pocket PCs

 • 27 November, 2003 16:24

Sydney: 27 November, 2003 — In keeping with its focus upon mobile and wireless computing, Toshiba (Australia) Pty. Limited, Information Systems Division (ISD) has announced its new range of Pocket PCs with two new models on the market. Being some of the smallest and lightest available, and with advanced features and wireless connectivity, the new e400 and e800 Pocket PCs are designed to maximise productivity for the mobile professional.

Hands-free voice applications
The Pocket PC e400 and e800 models both incorporate voice command and text-to-speech functions to facilitate quicker completion of tasks. Users can access their appointments, contact information plus other functions through simple commands which will open applications without the need to use the stylus. The text-to-speech functionality also enables emails to be read aloud, offering users the benefits of hands-free, even whilst driving.

World’s first four inch screen
The e800 model boasts the world’s first 4” screen, the largest currently on the market, whilst the e400 model features a 3.5” display area. Both models also offer enhanced screen brightness through a diagonal colour trans-reflective display, allowing users to more easily view information.

The range has been designed to be thin and lightweight, easily fitting into a handbag or pocket. At only 137g and 77 x 125 x 10.15 – 12.49 mm, the e400 is smaller than the average wallet and one of the smallest on the market.

Three-levels of data protection
Toshiba has uniquely incorporated a 72 hour data protection facility as standard in the new range, so even in the event of a battery running flat, data is as safe as possible. This data protection window extends to 180 hours of battery life when using the optional larger battery in the e800 model. This is a significant improvement on other models on the market where users will lose data when battery power is lost. The automated backup function in the range also allows users to schedule backup of their information on a required basis.

Judi Liddiard, Product Manager: Pocket PCs said, “Work is a function you perform, not a place that you go. Toshiba’s new range of Pocket PCs was designed to enable the mobile professional to make their travel time far more productive. The new ease-of-use features, plus the limited size and weight mean the e400 and e800 are perfect tools for professionals on the move. For personal use, the new range is an eye-catching and beneficial device for remaining in-touch and organised.”

Wireless connectivity
Integrated Wi-Fi® (802.11b) connectivity is available in the e800 model giving users convenient access to the Internet and corporate network from any wireless hotspot. This model also features Voice over IP (VoIP) capability and Toshiba’s ConfigFree software for simple set up of single or multiple WiFi profiles. The e800 also comes in a Bluetooth model for connectivity to other Bluetooth devices such as mobile phones, computers and printers.

Conversion into fully-functional PC
A USB host cable option is incorporated into both models of the new range, for connection into any USB device including keyboards, printers, mice and storage devices. The e800 also comes with an expansion pack option enabling connection to an external monitor or projector through a VGA port, a particularly valuable option when delivering presentations.
