Crystal Decisions Enhances Information Flow for Barwon Water

Victoria’s largest regional urban water authority implements Crystal Enterprise & Crystal Performance Scorecard solution to improve accuracy, consistency and timeliness of business reporting across its organisation.

SYDNEY, Australia - November 25, 2003 - Crystal Decisions, a global provider of business intelligence (BI) software and services, has been selected to address the multi-layered BI needs of Barwon Water Region Authority (Barwon Water) and help the Victorian water utility streamline its enterprise wide reporting processes.

Following an extensive consultation, tender and piloting program, Barwon Water selected Crystal Decisions’ Enterprise and Scorecard products to fulfill its BI requirements. Barwon Water was particularly impressed that Crystal was able to offer a single, feature rich product that satisfied all its business reporting requirements.

Joe Adamski, Barwon Water Executive Manager Strategy & Technology said, “In addition to our internal management requirements, we are also required to report to a number of government, regulatory and industry bodies, all with their own specific reporting protocols. We were looking for an Enterprise Information System (EIS) that would leverage our existing systems and provide ease of use, longevity and value.”

“Barwon Water is a data rich organisation, with data stored across several systems and locations. Crystal Enterprise allows us to get the information we want in a timely manner and summarised precisely how we want it.”

The Crystal Enterprise solution enables immediate access to data required for the effective management and development of Barwon Water’s business. The organisation is now able to readily view and evaluate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as and when it requires, and Crystal Performance Scorecard allows trends to be instantly identified.

“Not only has the system reduced the burden that reporting placed on our IT department - thereby providing time and cost savings - but it has allowed greater transparency in our reporting to outside organisations. The business now has constant access to up to date information, facilitating improved corporate governance and informed decision making,” added Adamski.

Barwon Water operates on a system of continual development and constantly looks at ways to leverage existing assets to improve performance. One of the initial goals of this project was to streamline and enhance performance management reporting and to establish a secure and dynamic infrastructure to provide enterprise wide access to up to date information. Crystal Enterprise Premium and Crystal Performance Scorecard are enabling Barwon Water to meet these goals.

Rob Zalums, Managing Director, Crystal Decisions Australia and New Zealand said, “This contract once again proves the strength of the Crystal product range in collating data from diverse locations and systems to present accurate and timely information for business reporting. For publicly accountable organisations such as Barwon Water, reporting can be a complex, arduous and time-consuming task. This is where Crystal’s simplicity of installation and ease of use really come into their own. We are pleased to be working with a leader in essential services provision such as Barwon Water and look forward to continuing our work with them into the future.”

Based on early successes, Barwon Water is now proceeding with a system roll out throughout the organisation.
