m,Net Creates Groundbreaking Mobile Olympic Site for Telstra

 • 28 July, 2008 15:06

As the world counts down to the start of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games on 8th August 2008, Australia’s leading mobile solutions company, m.Net, is preparing for the greatest test of its seven year history.

m.Net won the prestigious contract to build Telstra’s Beijing 2008 Olympic Games mobile internet site that will be accessed by millions of Australians to stay up to date with the latest results from the Games. As the official telecommunications services sponsor to 2008 Australian Olympic team, Telstra partnered with Seven Network Operations and Yahoo!7 to deliver live streaming feeds from the Channel 7 and SBS Olympic Games coverage to Next G™ mobile phones.

m.Net is providing a complete mobile solution that will deliver real-time coverage and on demand video of major events like the opening and closing ceremonies, events involving Australian athletes and behind the scenes footage, as well as up to the minute news reports, medal tallies, SMS alerts, and mobile games.

3G Take-up Enables New Olympic Games Mobile Experience
m.Net’s Chief Marketing Officer, Scott Johnson, said the site offers a radical new Olympic Games experience for Australian sports fans.

“The huge take-up of 3G mobile handsets into the market over the past four years means that, for the first time, people all over Australia will be able to use their mobile phones to follow the latest results during the Beijing Games and truly experience Olympic history as it happens, no matter where they are at the time,” he said.

“An event like the Olympics offers a unique opportunity to showcase the enormous potential of mobile technology to keep people informed and up to date, regardless of whether they are in the office, on the road or engaged in meetings. This is one of the most sophisticated mobile sites ever built, not just in Australia but anywhere in the world, and we are enormously proud of the way we are contributing to the Australian Olympic experience in 2008.”

m.Net designed and built the Telstra mobile Beijing 2008 Olympic Games site to the highest quality standards and engaged in exhaustive testing to ensure it would be capable of handling the huge number of users expected to sign up for mobile Olympic Games coverage and results.

The site is hosted at m.Net’s secure Telstra data centre with full mirroring and redundancy to ensure an error-free service. Telstra subscribers can opt into a special Alert Service to receive reminders about their favourite events while streaming Video On Demand ensures that full coverage is always available, even if they missed the live broadcast.

m.Net Site Means More Support for Aussie Athletes
“Australians are avid sports fans and the Olympics is an opportunity for us to join together to follow and cheer on those dedicated athletes who have worked so hard to earn the right to represent their nation at the 2008 Games,” said Mr Johnson.

“We believe the mobile coverage we are delivering for Telstra will allow Australians all around this country to share in the Games in ways that have not previously been possible. They can even send Hero Messages to their favourite athletes direct from their mobile phone, which will truly help to make our Olympic athletes feel supported and potentially inspire them to even grater heights.”

It’s easy to set up, it’s compact and quiet when printing and to top if off, the print quality is excellent. This is hands down the best printer I’ve used for printing labels.
