Fujitsu ships LifeBook with Mobile Pentium 4

Fujitsu PC on Monday rolled out its first line of laptop computers powered by Intel's Mobile Pentium 4 Processor-M chip.

The new Fujitsu LifeBook C Series systems offer the Intel chip running at 1.6GHz, as well as Intel's 845MP chipset, according to Fujitsu representatives.

The LifeBook is being billed as a feature-rich system for users looking to take advantage of the latest multimedia technology.

Priced at approximately US$1,999, the LifeBook C Series comes with a 15-inch XGA display, options for either CD-ROM, DVD, or DVD/CD-RW drives, up to a 40GB hard drive, and 256MB of DDR memory. Optional 802.11b wireless LAN technology will also be available in May of 2002, according to Fujitsu representatives based in Santa Clara, Calif.

Similar to laptops from Sony and Hitachi, Fujitsu laptops have been gaining acceptance by a class of users generally referred to as CxO's -- or senior company executives -- who see the systems as a tier above the typically issued corporate laptops from vendors such as Dell Computer and IBM, according to industry observers.
