An employee cock-up has exposed the email address of over 13,000 Ticketek members.
On Friday Ticketek sent out a pre-sale email alert for a forthcoming show by US musicians The Dandy Warhols. The email was supposed to contain information relevant to the show such as band information, venue and the dates and time the tickets would go on sale to Ticketek members ahead of their release to the general public.
Instead, the newsletter spewed out 13,483 email addresses of Ticketek members in the body text and no information about the band whatsoever.
The email domains in the pre-sale newsletter belong to a who's who of Australian organisations including employees at banks, law firms, government departments and the police.
According to a Ticketek spokesperson the email was sent to less than 0.1 percent of addresses in its database.
It is believed the persons on the list were, according to Ticketek's business intelligence software, those most likely to be interested in The Dandy Warhols shows when they tour in October.
The spokesperson said the company was currently contacting subscribers and working with the Privacy Commission on remedial actions.
