Keeping an eye in the sky on company cars

GPS tracking system designed to prevent misuse of company vehicles

Satellite tracking specialist phantomEye has unveiled a GPS-based electronic log book designed to detect employee misuse of company vehicles.

Developed by phantomEye and licensed to Gofinder for national distribution, the Gofinder Reporter is an electronic vehicle logbook that automatically displays tracking data online, in order to allow employers to track vehicle use by employees.

phantomEye claims misuse of company vehicles costs individual Australian small and medium businesses tens of thousands of dollars a year.

The Gofinder Reporter uses satellite tracking and Google Earth and reports via Telstra’s Next G network to provide small businesses with online time, attendance and activity records of employees driving company vehicles.

In addition to virtual real-time tracking, the Reporter is able to send a multitude of e-mail and online reports, including daily timesheets, a daily report of all addresses visited, a daily or monthly mileage report and a continuously updated travel history.

“The unit is an easily installed electronic vehicle logbook, which automatically displays essential tracking data online to facilitate workforce management and record keeping”, said Gofinder founder Graham Thomas.

“It may not necessarily be all that popular with employees who may feel it has some nasty ‘Big Brother’ implications, but it will give management control they didn’t have before”, he added.

In addition to keeping track of vehicles, Gofinder Reporter also provides automated data for payroll, audit, tax and attendance records and can generate timesheets that record the start and finish times of drivers, allowing hours worked and overtime to easily be calculated.

Gofinder Reporter is available in a number of pricing plans, starting from $499 for an annual subscription. A nationwide installation service is available.
