New MPEG2 software encoder available

Innobits AB, which makes software tools for digital audio and video processing, has released the BitVice MPEG2 video encoder, a Mac-first goodie that lets you stuff more MPEG2 video onto each DVD disk at broadcast quality, according to Roger Andersson co-founder of Innobits.

Innobits decided to make BitVice for the Mac first simply because Apple Computer Inc. already delivers DVD disk burners with several new Macs, he added. The software lets you compress movies into a format that's immediately playable by any compliant MPEG2 decoder and is suitable for the authoring tool of your choice, Andersson said.

The BitVice MPEG2 Encoder costs US$297. It can be downloaded from the Innobits Web site. A demo version is also available. Alas, it's Mac OS 9.x only. There's no Mac OS X version.
