• 13 October, 2008 23:30

A Doncaster-based software developer whose products are used to research some of the world’s most pressing issues was formally honoured for its significant export success at the 2008 Governor of Victoria Export Awards in Melbourne tonight.

QSR International took out the ‘2008 Information and Communication Technology Award’ after a year of strong export growth and high profit return. CEO John Owen said the awards recognized the important advancements QSR had made in the competitive global software field.

“We are delighted to receive this award and be recognized for our export success and innovative approach in the highly competitive international IT industry. We are also proud of the recognition that our ‘Australian made’ software is being used to inform some of the world’s most important research projects, from HIV-AIDS and climate change, to terrorism.”

QSR’s NVivo and XSight software is currently used by more than 400,000 customers spanning 90 countries and has an estimated 65% share of the global qualitative research software market. Unlike many other software companies, the majority of QSR’s software development takes place in Victoria.

Mr Owen said the award topped off a fantastic year for the company which included increased global sales; enhanced direct sales channels in offshore markets; effective international strategic partnerships and new dedicated Spanish, Chinese and Japanese foreign language software releases.

“In 2008 we broke new ground by introducing dedicated foreign language versions of our NVivo 8 software to remove language barriers and allow international research teams to better collaborate on projects. Moving forward we are determined to continue to lead our industry with innovative advancements by listening to the needs and wants of our global customers,” he said.

QSR International CEO John Owen said the company is proud to be a leader in its field and is determined to set new standards in the qualitative research software industry in the years ahead. This includes plans to launch more dedicated foreign language software versions, while also building on its strategies to increase international brand awareness and generate new export opportunities.
