New ESG Report on BakBone Reveals Positive Market Momentum and ‘Fast Track’ Business Sucess

 • 04 August, 2005 14:19

Report Cites Strong Worldwide Market Traction, Stellar Sales, Linux Leadership and Solid Reputation for Cost-Effective Enterprise-Class Veritas Replacement

Sydney, Australia – August 4, 2005 - BakBone Software™ (TSX: BKB; PK: BKBO), a global provider of data protection software, continues to demonstrate aggressive growth and positive momentum led by sound product and business strategies, according to the latest viewpoint issued by Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), a leading industry analyst firm. In this latest report, ESG highlights the burgeoning success of BakBone’s NetVault backup and disaster recovery software, stating the Company has been “a stellar stand-alone business in a sea of giants.”

According to Steve Duplessie, founder and senior analyst of ESG, BakBone has gained a significant foothold in the data protection space by focusing on reducing the costs and complexity of backup and recovery. “It’s clear that BakBone continues to gain significant traction as a legitimate alternative to Veritas,” he said. “Additionally, the Company’s early commitment to Linux has paid off in spades while its diversified distribution strategy is fuelling BakBone’s ride on the fast track.”

The report revealed that 70 percent of BakBone’s new business represents Veritas replacements, most often because organisations are seeking enterprise-class solutions that are easier and more economical to deploy. According to the ESG report, “NetVault does everything you’d want – the real value to the product is that it does it easily.” NetVault can be up and running in hours, not days or weeks, and adding scalability is as simple as adding more licenses. The same product can be used for a 10-node system and scale to support hundreds of client nodes without a “forklift” upgrade to a separate solution.

With first-to-market support for Oracle 10g, Solaris 10, Network Appliance OnTap 7G, Red Hat Enterprise Server 4, Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9, and most recently Mac OS X, BakBone remains dedicated to offering the broadest mixed-platform support. This enables strategic partners to accelerate go-to-market strategies while giving end-user customers an extra measure of confidence in protecting heterogeneous computing environments. With over 12,000 customers at the end of 2004, ESG theorises that BakBone is well positioned to continue earning brand-name customer wins, which today include the world’s largest retailer, the largest Internet company and the largest car manufacturer.

“This latest report from the well-respected analysts at ESG further validates our progress in expanding both the NetVault product line and our worldwide business,” said Jim Johnson, president and CEO of BakBone Software. “We are well positioned to deliver the most compelling value proposition in the data protection market. Our award-winning products are backed by an indirect channel approach and evenly balanced worldwide distribution mix to fuel both our growth strategies and commitment to customers around the world.”
