Benq Corp. is gearing up for entry into the LCD (liquid crystal display) TV market later this year, displaying two prototype TV sets at the Computex Taipei 2002 exhibition.
The Taipei company had two models on display at its booth here, a 15-inch model and a 20-inch model. The 15-inch model offers a 400:1 contrast ratio and brightness of 450 candelas per square meter. The prototype set weighed 6 kilograms and offered compatibility with HDTV (High-Definition TV) and support for SRS Surround Sound.
The 20-inch prototype offered a slightly better contrast ratio of 500:1 and brightness of 500 candelas per square meter. Weighing 10 kilograms, the set also supports HDTV and SRS Surround Sound.
Benq plans to begin shipping LCD TV sets in August or September, said Greg Lin, a marketing specialist at the company's Digital Display unit. Pricing has not yet been finalized, he said.
Computex runs through Friday, June 7.
