On November 7, Gears of War 2 will hit retail shelves Australia wide. Sales of the exclusive Xbox 360 title are tipped to match blockbuster movies' opening weekends, with critics predicting it will be the biggest-selling game of the summer.
“Each summer season in this current console generation, Xbox 360 has led the industry with the best line-up of blockbuster video games, and we are poised to lead the charge again in 2008 with Gears of War 2”, said Phil Spencer from Microsoft Game Studios. "Gears of War has sold more than five million units to date, and this next chapter in the franchise will raise the bar yet again.”
The plot follows humanity's continuing struggle against the evil Locust Hoarde on the war-ravaged planet Sera. Players will once again fill the role of Delta Squad leader Marcus Fenix.
“Epic’s goal was to create an emotionally engaging experience that will not only satisfy core gamers, but also attract new players who want to experience something akin to watching a movie”, said Clif Bleszinski, design director at Epic Games.
In addition to the Standard retail edition (RRP $99.95), Gear of War 2 will also be available in a special limited edition with an RRP of $119.95. Encased in a collectible SteelBook DVD case, the Limited Edition includes the 48-page hardbound book Beneath the Surface: An Inside Look at Gears of War 2, a bonus DVD containing a making-of documentary, a keepsake photo of Delta Squad operative Dominic Santiago and his wife Maria, and an Xbox LIVE token to unlock a gold-plated Lancer for online play. In addition, all copies of the game come with an Xbox LIVE token to download the bonus Flashback Map Pack.
