TiVo to get new features

For when you're too lazy to call for pizza...

TiVo.

TiVo.

If you’re one of the few consumers who bought a TiVo before the Olympic Games and were a little disheartened at the lack of functionality, there’s some salvation in sight.

From November 17, users of the Internet-enabled TiVo devices will be offered a free downloadable movie per week, until March 1.

By then, the TiVo service will have an online store up and running, with more than 100 movies available, as well as a variety of television shows and additional content. Rather than being the latest titles released to DVD, the system will be populated with movies often shown on regular television and Foxtel’s Box Office on-demand gateway.

The television content will be supported by advertising, which means it will be free to view. Movies, however, will be a mix of ad-supported and pay-per-view.

Devices to increase the functionality of the TiVo, such as an external one terabyte hard drive to expand the system’s current 160GB storage, will also be available from next year. Along with a home networking kit, the drives will be available in stores from March 1.

In addition, the necessary functionality for online pizza and shopping purchases will be enabled by the second quarter of next year, with services to be offered by an as-yet-unnamed third party.

The David Jones department store is set to begin selling TiVo units, meaning the TiVo will be available in six chains nationwide, including JB Hi-Fi, Domayne, Clive Anthony's, Dick Smith Electronics and the original launch partner, Harvey Norman.

If you can afford the price tag, it is well worth the money. It out performs any other laptop I have tried for gaming, and the transportable design and incredible display also make it ideal for work.
