Australian First for Leading Solutions

 • 09 December, 2008 17:39

Australia's largest reseller of PCs and notebooks, Leading Solutions, has strengthened its partnership with Intel and established three Technology Centres powered by Intel vPro at a cost of more than $150,000.

The new centres in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane will be located within Leading Solutions' offices and operated by their own specialist personnel.

The initiative brings together leading industry players including Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Toshiba, IBM and Symantec.

The centres will allow Leading Solutions and its partners to demonstrate the features and benefits of Intel vPro Technology, including remote diagnosis and repair even when the operating system is down and considerably reduced energy consumption.

Frank Colli, managing director of Leading Solutions, said there is a demonstrable need for these centres, which are the first in Australia and New Zealand.

"We know that a large number of organisations have been purchasing their PCs and notebooks with Intel vPro Technology for the past year or two, but that only a small percentage have activated the technology," Colli said.

Fast Return on Investment

"With all the benefits of Intel vPro and a fast return on investment, Leading Solutions is now in a strong position to offer training to organisations on how it operates, and will run demonstrations for clients and prospects aimed at C-level executives, IT managers, technicians and consultants.

"Our installed client base is considerable, particularly in the corporate, education and government sectors. We see these centres as a way of providing a valuable additional service to our clients, which will directly help their bottom line and assist them in becoming more environmentally responsible.

"While many of these organisations have been future-proofing their organisation through the purchase of Intel vPro, we can show them that now is the time to activate the technology and take advantage of the benefits it can provide.

"Other users of the centres include vendor sales teams and managed service providers," he said.

The new Technology Centres powered by Intel vPro, will utilise Symantec's Altiris Client Management Suite, which was developed for IT professionals who manage computing devices on a regular basis. The suite enables administrators to deploy, manage and troubleshoot systems from virtually anywhere and reduces the total cost of ownership for desktops, notebooks and handheld devices.

Philip Cronin, general manager of Australia and New Zealand for Intel Australia, said the Technology Centres in Australia are a part of a global Intel strategy to demonstrate the benefits of vPro Technology and train users in its operation.

"These new Technology Centres are an excellent way for organisations to access the many benefits of Intel vPro Technology. When vPro is activated, clients enjoy the advantages of better managed systems, strengthened PC fleet security and reduced energy costs. The education provided by the Centres addresses the need for greater awareness and training for the deployment of this technology. This is the first of its kind in Australia and Intel is excited to collaborate with Leading Solutions on this initiative," he said.

Some of the benefits of Intel vPro that will have most impact on Australian organisations include:

• Remote diagnostic and repair even if the operating system is down.

• Encrypted remote software update to ensure PCs always have the most up-to-date security and desktop applications.

• Considerable reduced energy consumption through improvements in power efficiency and the ability to log on to PCs remotely.**

• More accurate remote asset management and asset tagging for all hardware and software assets on network-connected PCs.

• Ability to obtain reports that calculate their carbon generation.

• High level and proactive security through advanced virus isolation to protect PCs on the network.

**This means upgrades and patches can be undertaken out of normal business hours and allows users to turn their PC off when they go home for the day. For example, a comparison between Intel Core 2 Duo processor E6400 VS Intel Pentium D Processor 945 reveals that 500 PCs switched off for 16 hours a day (eg from 5pm to 9am) results in an estimated cost saving of $100,976.00 over a four year period.
