Blue Care Transitions ICT Operational Management to Dimension Data

Dimension Data partners with Queensland-based healthcare provider Blue Care on five-year agreement to provide IT operating service support.
 • 17 December, 2008 10:30

Dimension Data and Blue Care announced today that the two organisations have commenced the transition of the management of Blue Care’s current ICT environment to Dimension Data. The five-year managed services contract, signed in November 2008, combines both ongoing support for Blue Care’s existing IT infrastructure, as well as the requirement to identify opportunities and establish a program of works for IT service level enhancement over the next two to three years. The value of the contract has not been disclosed.

Blue Care, an agency of UnitingCare Queensland, employs over 9800 staff and consists of more than 260 care centres across Queensland and northern New South Wales. Blue Care staff and volunteers provide care for more than 12,500 people every day through nursing, allied health, personal care, domestic assistance, respite, social support, pastoral and volunteer services.

Blue Care selected Dimension Data as its services partner after a rigorous evaluation and selection process. As Blue Care transforms from its current “local-based” application environment to a new enterprise environment, the organisation had a requirement for a different suite of skills and expertise to what it currently has available in-house. Blue Care’s current IT skill base will continue to support front-line care delivery, IT strategy and new capability delivery while Dimension Data will provide operating service support to manage Blue Care’s data centre, network, email services and end user devices.

“Over the next three years, Blue Care’s ability to execute our strategic objectives as well as identify and exploit competitive advantages is dependent upon further investment and development of core capabilities. Part of this capability is the establishment and operation of core systems that support the objectives of our business at an enterprise level, with single applications rolled out organisation-wide,” said Greg Masters, chief operating officer, Blue Care.

“Technology is an enabler of business outcomes and as Blue Care’s dependency on technology increases, we must ensure that we can continue to provide the service levels required to support our front-line service delivery.”

The first of these organisation-wide applications expected to be implemented is Procura’s Health Management System, which will provide a common information system for care and service management and is expected to lead to greater efficiency of service delivery.

“Dimension Data’s partnership with Blue Care is a great vindication of our managed services approach. Incremental business value can be derived for both parties from a managed services relationship which is based on a partnering model that is more than just ‘keeping the lights on’ - it’s about delivering continual service improvements and achieving business outcomes over the life of the contract,” said Steve Nola, Australian CEO, Dimension Data.

“We’re really excited with what the future holds in our partnership with Blue Care, and we are looking forward to working on some innovative projects over the next five years.”

“The capability Dimension Data brings to Blue Care will complement our existing capacity and capability, and also complement the significant progress we have recently made in establishing an ICT governance structure, an enterprise ICT architecture and technology roadmap,” concluded Mr Masters.
