The top 10 HDMI-equipped LCD monitors

Excellent 22, 24 and 26in LCD monitors that offer the versatility of an HDMI connection.

HDMI is an increasingly common connection on monitors. On some monitors it has even replaced DVI. The benefits of having a HDMI port are obvious. It is the clear connection of choice over DVI and D-Sub on newer notebooks due to its size. It's also an increasingly common connection on home entertainment devices such as receivers. A monitor with a HDMI port can be more than just a display for your computer — it can be used with some high-definition gaming consoles and, with a set-top box or tuner, can double as a TV.

Just because a monitor has an HDMI port it isn't a guarantee that it will have great picture quality or support Full HD 1080p resolution, So we have compiled a list of the top 10 monitors with HDMI.

HP w2228h
Price: $699
Star Rating: 3.75

Like many HP monitors, the w2228h has a glossy reflective layer which can often be more trouble than its worth in a well-lit area. Thankfully, the glossy coating allows for a rich colour palette which, in combination with its dynamic contrast ratio, will make games and movies look great.

ASUS MK241H
Price: $699
Star Rating: 3.75

For the same price as the HP, you can bump up the screen size to a 24in, get a HDMI port and watch content in Full HD. The ASUS MK241H has a vivid colour palette and great black levels. Though the 1.3Mp webcam might imply that the MK241H is to be used primarily with PCs, the HDMI connection and good image quality mean it's not limited to being plugged into your desktop.

BenQ G2400W
Price: $899
Star Rating: 4

A little extra money will get you a 24in monitor that presents more balanced colours. Though this might not necessarily be the best choice for movies and games, the increased colour accuracy makes this monitor a good choice for editing photos or video. The only real fault with this monitor is its noise levels — which affect movies with darker scenes — but overall the BenQ G2400W is a great HDMI-equipped monitor.

Samsung SyncMaster 245T
Price: $1199
Star Rating: 4

Samsung is certainly no slouch in the monitor market and the SyncMaster 245T is a great example of the company's high-quality monitors. This 24in monitor has a diminutive and unimposing bezel and offers HDMI, S-Video and Component connections; perfect for hooking up a range of home entertainment devices. Although the 6ms response may not suit fast-paced gaming, the connectivity and image quality are great reasons to buy the monitor.

ASUS LS221H
Price: $599
Star Rating: 4

For those who want vivid colours but are stuck in a well-lit room, this 22in ASUS monitor provides the glossy panel without the glare. Its specifications are fairly standard, but the non-reflective layer will ensure that you can still achieve vivid colours without feeling like you're looking into an expensive mirror.

BenQ E2200HD
Price: $319
Star Rating: 4.25

This BenQ monitor is only a 22in model but it still has a Full HD resolution. Fast motion in games is the monitor's only real weakness, though this won't be an issue when watching movies and TV. It's a great option as a TV in smaller rooms, though you'll need to fork out for an external set-top box.

HP DreamColor LP2480zx
Price: $4288.90
Star Rating: 4.25

No, you aren't dreaming, that is a real price tag. Of course, for that price you would expect something unbelievable and, thankfully, HP has largely delivered with the 24in DreamColor LP2480zx monitor. It uses a 30-bit panel that delivers exceptional colour reproduction. Of course, a 60in plasma or LCD panel can be had for the same price, so this monitor is probably best left to the professionals.

Samsung SyncMaster 2693HM
Price: $TBA
Star Rating: 4.5

You'll be pressed to see minute details when displaying Full HD content on a SyncMaster 2693HM compared to viewing it on Samsung's latest 52in LCD television but the 26in monitor is still sizable enough to warrant consideration as a secondary home entertainment display. It has a high contrast ratio and great colour.

Viewsonic VX2260wm
Price: $TBA
Star Rating: 4.5

The Viewsonic VX2260wm has a great minimalist design and offers a Full HD resolution of 1920x1080. For connectivity it offers D-Sub, DVI and HDMI ports.

Samsung SyncMaster 2493HM
Price: $899
Star Rating: 4.5

It's unsurprising to see Samsung at the top of the pile, given the company's track record of good quality monitors that have comprehensive connectivity. A well-integrated dynamic contrast capability and vivid colour palette make movies and games look great. If you want a monitor with HDMI and great performance, you won't be disappointed with the Samsung SyncMaster 2493HM.
