Dimension Data Appoints Christopher Long as National Sales Director

Dimension Data announced today the company has appointed Christopher Long as National Sales Director, reporting to Dimension Data’s Australian CEO Steve Nola.
 • 10 March, 2009 13:00

Mr Long brings extensive local and overseas experience in both IT sales management and services management. He has spent the last 22 years in a variety of senior executive positions at a number of enterprise software and services firms in Australia and North America, where he specialised in sales management, services management and operations, and software and service company alliances.

Mr Long’s core responsibility will be to manage and enhance Dimension Data’s sales team, and also to promote a much broader range of services into the company’s client base, with the aim of addressing clients’ business challenges. He will also be focused on accentuating Dimension Data’s executive engagement program.

Commenting on his immediate goals, Mr Long said: “Dimension Data’s strength around the converged client, converged network and multisourcing is really about taking the range of offerings Dimension Data has, and continues to develop in these core areas of the business, to all of our clients. I am intent on working with all of our sales teams to ensure we are taking solutions in these three strategic areas to every one of our customers.”

Commenting on Mr Long’s appointment, Dimension Data’s CEO Steve Nola said: “Chris has an astute understanding of the IT sales process and how to take a total solution to the client – both in services and technology – to solve an organisation’s business challenges. His rich IT sales management experience both in Australia and North America has demonstrated he has the ability to collaborate with clients to understand their business, get to the core of how specific issues affect other parts of their business, and to articulate a solution with broad business impact within their organisation.”

Mr Long began his IT career in Australia in 1985 with professional services firm Accenture, moving from programmer, to business analyst, to project manager and business consultant. He then worked for ERP software vendor Epicor (formerly Platinum Software) as Asia-Pacific Director of Consulting and Managing Director for Australia & New Zealand, before joining e-commerce software maker InterWorld as Regional VP for Asia-Pacific. From 1999 to 2001, he was a joint founder and executive vice president of Q Strategies, a US-based services firm specialising in e-commerce and messaging software implementation, based in Boulder, Colorado.

Mr Long returned to Australia in 2001, to work in divisional management roles at software companies including SAS Institute and PeopleSoft. In 2006, he moved into the consulting space with a start-up software company, developing software programs to manage performance-based initiatives. Most recently, he was with ERP software company Lawson as Director of Professional Services for A/NZ.

“I chose to take up this role because the people and culture of Dimension Data got me enthused,” said Mr Long, explaining: “With a global company of substantial size and a good track record in the Australian market, a strong management team who understands its business and its challenges, and a company with very relevant solutions for its customers and great people to deliver those, Dimension Data was an ideal fit for me.”
Mr Long holds a Bachelor of Computer Science and a Bachelor of Economics from the Australian National University (ANU) and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD).
