Adobe announces Photoshop Elements 2.0

Adobe Systems Inc. Monday announced Photoshop Elements 2.0, the latest release of its imaging software aimed at hobbyists and amateur photographers.

Photoshop Elements 2.0 provides easier access to commonly needed tools, along with new color correction, compositing and creative tools. Users can share slideshows in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF), as well.

Lighting and color correction capabilities are provided for in a single dialog window in Photoshop Elements 2.0, making it possible to view the original file side-by-side with its modified version. The new version of Elements also features instant-access help files and "how to" recipes that can be pulled up by typing keywords. Photoshop Elements 2.0 also sports one-step resize and image attachment. A new file browser lets users preview, sort and organize images by thumbnail, too.

There's more, too: Color Variations has been redesigned, showing previews of real-time color adjustments prior to applying. Selection Brush is new -- it masks unwanted areas of a photo. New paintbrush options have been added which simulate oils, watercolors, charcoal, pastels and various canvas textures. Users can now capture and edit individual frames from video clips.

Photoshop Elements 2.0 will ship in the third quarter of 2002, according to Adobe. The estimated street price is US$99. Registered users of Photoshop Elements 1.0, Photoshop LE, PhotoDeluxe and other digital imaging software products will be able to get a mail-in rebate.

If you can afford the price tag, it is well worth the money. It out performs any other laptop I have tried for gaming, and the transportable design and incredible display also make it ideal for work.
