Telstra and RIM to deliver wireless email solution for corporate customers

Telstra Mobile and Research in Motion (RIM) have announced an exclusive agreement to bring the BlackBerry wireless solution to Telstra's corporate customers.

RIM developed BlackBerry, a wireless technology solution which has been deployed in more than 14,000 companies in North America and Europe with expansion beginning in Asia.

Telstra intends to offer BlackBerry over its mobile wireless network.

Officials said Blackberry is the first wireless solution that properly integrates data and voice services while addressing both the needs of end users and IT departments.

The BlackBerry 5820 wireless handheld features built-in e-mail, phone, SMS and organiser applications. BlackBerry Enterprise Server software enables configuration and management as well as back-end integration with corporate systems and end-to-end security.

Telstra Mobile managing director, wireless data solutions, Craig Cameron said BlackBerry was a step forward in the evolution of wireless handheld devices.

"Combined with our GPRS (general packet radio service) network, we are confident that BlackBerry will be popular with our customers. Telstra has already started acceptance testing and plans to install pilots in June and roll out the solution commercially later in the year," Cameron said.

Pricing, availability and launch timing details are not yet available.

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.
