New Panasonic Blu-ray recorders launched

Panasonic's second generation of Blu-ray disc recorders feature twin high-definition digital tuners and VIERA CAST technology.

Panasonic Australia today launched two new Blu-ray disc recorders, the DMR-BW750 and DMR-BW850. The Panasonic DMR-BW750 is equipped with a 250GB hard drive (HDD) while the Panasonic DMR-BW850 comes with 500GB of onboard memory. Both models are VIERA CAST enabled, which allows viewers to access YouTube videos and Google Picasa Web albums when connected to the Internet via an Ethernet cable.

The Panasonic DMR-BW750 and Panasonic DMR-BW850 feature vastly improved recording times over their predecessors due to an advanced H.264 encoder. The DMR-BW850, which comes with a 500GB hard drive, can record up to 240 hours of high-definition content (or 72 hours in Full HD). This is more than three times the capacity of its 500GB predecessor, the Panasonic DMR-BW500. The DMR-BW750, meanwhile, can record up to 120 hours of high-definition recording (or 36 hours in Full HD) to its 250GB hard drive.

Both the Panasonic DMR-BW750 and Panasonic DMR-BW850 also offer DivX playback, which allows you to play downloaded movie and TV content via a USB drive or a DVD. Both recorders are compatible with BD-Live, which allows users to download additional Blu-ray content (such as images and games) from the Internet.

The DMR-BW750 and DMR-BW850 each offer a twin DVB-T high-definition tuners. This means that you can record two different high-def television shows at once, while watching a Blu-ray movie at the same time. Both recorders can record 5.1-channel Dolby Digital surround sound and come with an SD card slot for accessing photos and AVCHD home movie playback.

The Panasonic DMR-BW850 and DMR-BW750 will be available at the end of May 2009, priced at $2199 and $1979, respectively.
