Breasts, beer and bacon: Colin McRae Dirt 2 trailer

Due out September

The newly launched Colin McRae Dirt2 trailer is a 39 second appeal to red-blooded gamer bogans.

Which is why it initially slipped past me that the video really tells you nothing about the game. The driver wakes up, walks past a showering girl, some bottles and is offered some bacon by a goth chick in undies.

But Codemasters' Gavin Raeburn reckons the game is about starting out small, and gaining rep by winning races and sucking up to big name players.

“We’re creating a new career journey for players; one that will capture the spirit of contemporary off-road racing. It’s all about travelling the world in your RV, hitting off-road festivals, competing at major spectator events and building your rep as a driver,” Raeburn said.

“As players progress through the World Tour, friendships will be formed with hero drivers from the off-roading world and these relationships will, in turn, help players accelerate their way up the rankings ladder. The more players impress and bond with the big names, the more invitations they’ll get to the cooler events and even receive offers to team up with the pros for major competitions.”

Players will travel the globe in their own massive RV; the interior of which will form both the game’s front end and the gateway to new locations. At each location the RV will park up ahead of the race event, with the awaiting scene visible through the windows.

Colin McRae DiRT 2 will come complete with full online functionality, with head-to-head competitive online play and new social features to engage the racing community.

Its due out in September on Xbox 260, Playstation 3, Wii, Nintendo DS and PSP.

The screenshots look awesome.

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.
