Orders Aplenty for Belden's Broadcast Cables

 • 14 May, 2009 14:57

Belden Australia has had an influx of orders and completed projects in recent months for many high profile sites including the new Melbourne Convention Centre and adjacent Hilton Hotel at South Wharf.

Belden is a world leader in the development of signal transmission products for the industrial, building management, enterprise, broadcast and security markets.

Properties such as the Gold Coast Convention Centre, the Opera House, the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne, Fairfax's Media House in Melbourne, the Australian Defence Force's Joint Operations Command, RMIT University and Deloitte's head office in Melbourne are all in various stages of installing Belden's Brilliance broadcast audio and video cables.

According to Adam Callender, Belden's regional manager for Australia, the company's Brilliance range of cables has been the preferred cable for the broadcast industry for decades, commonly associated with major network events such as the Olympics, new stadiums and television and radio networks.

"Particularly during the digital upgrades to broadcasters' networks, Belden has taken a leadership role.

"We are now seeing commercial enterprises in new and existing buildings demanding broadcast grade cables to ensure high levels of performance are delivered from their audio and video installations where system downtime is not an option," Mr Callender said.

Tens of thousands of metres of Belden cables have been installed at the new Melbourne Convention Centre and Hilton Hotel, including Belden's Brilliance Video Twist Nano Skew™ UTP cabling for video applications and Belden IBDN structured cabling for data and communications applications.

When combined with the adjoining exhibition centre, this key infrastructure site in Melbourne's South Wharf precinct has become the largest exhibition and conference facility in the southern hemisphere.

At the Convention Centre's heart is one of the world's biggest halls with automated seating. It combines this feature with the ability to subdivide into three separate theatres, each capable of differently configured seating and each with its own stage.

"In winning this project, we partnered with Elecraft, part of Pacific Services Group, who installed the IBDN cabling and Rutledge Engineering who installed the AV cabling. Madison Technologies managed the supply and support," Mr Callender said.

"We know that the reasons why Belden cable was selected were because of its performance and product quality, the support provided and the 25-year end-to-end warranty, which gives the operators complete security and peace of mind for the future."

The Melbourne Convention Centre is due to open in July 2009 while the Hilton Hotel opened in April 2009.

UTP: unshielded twisted pair
IBDN: Integrated Building Distribution Network
