YouTube getting full-length ITV & C4 shows?

Video-sharing site tight-lipped on plans

YouTube is thought to be in discussions with Channel 4 and ITV in the UK about offering full-length shows on the video-sharing website, which currently only provides clips of the broadcasters' shows.

It has also been reported that Sony Pictures is considering putting full-length content on the Google-owned site. While YouTube has remained tight-lipped about the possible deals, Sony Pictures told New Media Age: "YouTube's aim is to do something with long-form. We are in discussions with it about that".

YouTube may be considering the deal as a result of the news that US online TV-on-demand services Hulu and TV.com are thought to be preparing to launch in the UK. The pair are thought to be keen to tap into the UK market after Project Kangaroo collapsed.

First announced in November 2007, Project Kangaroo was billed as a 'one-stop shop' for video content online and was expected to offer users more than 10,000 hours of TV, with around 90 percent available for free and the rest available for rent or purchase.

However, in March this year, the Competition Commission said the service wouldn't benefit consumers and halted the scheme.
