GoFinder launches GPS tracking device

The GoFinder SmartSystem runs on AA batteries and is designed for construction, transport and industrial equipment hire companies

GoFinder has released what it claims is Australia’s first sub-$400 GPS security tracking device. The GoFinder SmartSystem operates on AA lithium batteries.

A device the size of two decks of cards, the GoFinder SmartSystem is aimed at protecting industrial assets, such as equipment used in mining, construction and transport.

The GoFinder SmartSystem transmits real-time GPS, alarm and engine run-time data via the Globalstar satellite system.

Although GPS tracking technology and equipment has long been used in many industries, GoFinder founder Graham Thomas claims the SmartSystem is the first device of its kind to be sold at this price point.

"The GoFinder SmartSystem requires no wiring, antennas or external power and there is no installation cost involved. All you have to do is bolt Smartone on, turn it on and log on to your account," he said. "The unit operates on AA lithium batteries giving up to three year battery life, allowing you a peace of mind birds-eye satellite view of your property, online, 24/7."

The GoFinder SmartSystem is available for $399 on a 24-month contract, but there is also a $99 connection fee per device. Ongoing monthly charges depend on payment frequency but range from $24.95 to $29.95 per month.

The standard package allows for the receipt of two positions a day from anywhere in Australia, but the system can be configured to meet specific needs and provide emergency alerts via e-mail and SMS. Extra position reporting is charged on a monthly basis at 25 cents per SMS alert, though e-mails are free.

Last year, GoFinder won distribution rights for the GoFinder Reporter, a GPS-based electronic log book designed to detect employee misuse of company vehicles.
