LAS VEGAS – VERITAS VISIONTM 2004 – May 6, 2004 – VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTSE) today announced the substantial strengthening of its global services organization and offerings with the formation of four consulting practices, accelerated adoption of its premium technical support service offering, Business Critical Support, and the expansion of its global Certified Professional Program. VERITAS’ global services help customers to realize the promise of utility computing and the cost and productivity benefits that result from aligning IT services with changing business needs.

As customers navigate the complexities of managing today’s heterogeneous IT environments and begin migrating toward a utility computing model where IT is delivered as a measurable service, VERITAS consulting, education and support services will become key resources in helping them to achieve long-term success.

“We’ve decided to adopt a utility computing model to achieve better IT alignment across our business units,” said Gerald Pawsey, principle strategy and architecture, British Sky Broadcasting Network, the United Kingdom’s premiere digital television broadcaster. “VERITAS’ consulting professionals have been instrumental in driving project phases forward as ‘trusted advisors’ and have been helping us to select the right technologies for the job. We believe that the heterogeneous nature of VERITAS software combined with a compelling vision for utility computing make VERITAS an obvious choice for us in many areas of our IT infrastructure.”
35-Year Industry Veteran to Lead Consulting Services
VERITAS today announced the appointment of Michael Sinneck to lead VERITAS consulting services, reporting to Greg Hughes, executive vice president, VERITAS global services. Sinneck joins VERITAS from Microsoft where he led the worldwide services organization. In that role he focused on evolving and strengthening Microsoft’s integrated consulting services and product support organization. He also led efforts to enhance the company’s partner relationships. Prior to joining Microsoft, Sinneck was vice president, business operations and strategy for the IBM Global Services Business Innovation Services unit which was an integrated consulting and systems integration business. Sinneck holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from St. Francis College in Brooklyn, New York.

At VERITAS, Sinneck will build industry-leading global practice organizations of computing infrastructure and consulting experts. These experts will advise customers on how they can achieve optimal data and application availability, system performance and lower costs.

VERITAS Consulting Forms Four Practices to Enable Utility Computing
VERITAS consulting services are intended to complement existing professional services offerings and are available to customers through their sales account managers. The practices include:
Disaster Recovery – Certified disaster recovery professionals along with engineers and architects consult and advise in the development of comprehensive disaster recovery programs that minimize the impact of unplanned downtime.
Storage Management – Professionals consult and advise in identifying suboptimal areas of storage service and offer product-independent reference models for benchmarking. They facilitate the development of open architectures, processes and organizations that optimize the use of existing resources and lay the foundation for evolving to a utility computing infrastructure.
Application Performance Management – Professionals consult and advise to identify mission-critical application performance bottlenecks, recommending solutions that improve user satisfaction and productivity and creating reporting tools that help IT identify trends before they become problems.
Utility Computing – Through workshops and assessments, professionals develop a utility transformation program to execute a pragmatic building block approach to the deployment of service level agreements and the metering and chargeback of IT services.

“Customers are aligning their IT resources to the changing needs of their businesses, and are looking for innovative ways to maximize existing investments, lower operational costs and increase employee productivity,” said Greg Hughes, executive vice president of global services, VERITAS Software. “With the addition of Michael Sinneck to our team and the launch of these four practices to our consulting portfolio, we are well positioned to work with our customers and partners to architect and implement the VERITAS software solutions that will help them realize the promise of utility computing.”
