Symantec Phishing Report - September 2009

<p>A close observation of phishing tactics in Asia Pacific this past month revealed some interesting highlights:</p>
<p>• Symantec observed a 45 percent decrease in all phishing attacks when compared to July</p>
<p>• The number of phishing URLs generated using automatic phishing toolkits was 30 percent in August, a decrease of 74 percent</p>
<p>• The number of free web hosting services used for developing phishing sites decreased by 4 percent, with more than 111 used in August, accounting for 11 percent of all phishing attacks</p>
<p>• There was an 11 percent increase in non-English phishing sites</p>
<p>• Symantec observed an increase in phishing attacks facilitated by spam email messages targeting a popular email client application. The scam lured intended victims to a phishing web page in an attempt to acquire critical user information</p>
