Ricoh sets high environmental standards for Australia's corporate leaders

Ricoh Australia has just launched Total Green Office Solutions, at the first of its national Let's Do Lunch business events. Their keynote speaker was Randall Pearce - a climate messenger trained by Al Gore - delivering "Our Choice'', the highly anticipated follow up to An Inconvenient Truth. Ricoh’s Sydney event last week was Pearce’s first time delivering Gore’s Our Choice message. It will be followed by similar events in all capital cities. Stuart Haywood, Ricoh's Group Product Manager for Office Automation, introduced Total Green Office Solutions and Ricoh's new @Remote Green Reporting - which helps businesses measure their printing fleet's CO2 emissions, paper usage and power consumption. Sydney's event was held last Thursday at Quay - where local, sustainable produce was served. Ricoh will also be offsetting its carbon emissions, from this event.

Ricoh has enlisted Climate Project presenter Randall Pearce to deliver his version of Al Gore’s presentation on climate change at its seventh annual Let’s Do Lunch series, highlighting the importance for corporations to act sustainably.

Attendees to Ricoh’s annual event were among the first in Australia to hear Al Gore’s new environmental speech, Our Choice. Pearce was one of the first in Australia to be trained by the former US Vice President to deliver the climate change facts and explain the solutions available to individuals and businesses.

Ricoh’s event on 10 September in Sydney was Pearce’s first time delivering Gore’s Our Choice message. It will be followed by similar events in Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra and Brisbane throughout the next few weeks.

Ricoh, a leader in corporate sustainability, also launched its Total Green Office Solutions (TGOS) at the event. TGOS is a consultative service which helps businesses eliminate inefficiencies, reduce carbon footprint and adopt more sustainable business through detailed reporting on CO2 emissions, power consumption and paper use.

“Climate change is such an important issue. We want to demonstrate how business, and specifically ours, can positively influence and educate the market in best practice green office solutions,” said Les Richardson, Managing Director of Ricoh Australia.

“In addition, it ensures that Ricoh imaging equipment meets green procurement mandates and is designed to minimise environmental impact at every lifecycle stage. We want to work towards a low carbon economy,” he added.

Ricoh will completely offset the carbon emissions for the events. To minimise the impact on the environment, the menu will feature sustainable and locally obtained produce .

Ricoh has made a donation to the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF), the Australian home of The Climate Project, to show their support for this initiative. More than 500 people have been trained as volunteer Climate Project Presenters throughout the Asia Pacific region. To date they have delivered a presentation to one in seventy Australians – and to help spread this message further, Ricoh is encouraging all guests who attend these events to bring together a group of people and invite a Climate Project Presenter into their business.

Pearce is the managing director of Think: Insight & Advice Pty Ltd, a research and communications consultancy. He volunteers his time as a Climate Project Presenter to act as a catalyst to communicate the urgency for action on climate change. Pearce says climate change is “a social issue as much as an environmental one” and draws on research into public opinion and social trends to illustrate this point.

Nobel Peace prize laureate Al Gore will soon release his latest book, Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis. It picks up where An Inconvenient Truth left off - communicating the need for an urgent agreement to cut carbon pollution and implement a global solution to the climate crisis.

Our Choice offers a blueprint for solving the climate crisis and describes the bold global initiatives which need to be implemented now. The book will be available prior to the December UN climate talks in Copenhagen, where the world’s leaders will negotiate a new global agreement to replace the Kyoto Protocol.
