LG Australia has announced it will launch the "world's first touch watch phone" in Australia this December. The LG GD910 will feature a full touch-screen interface, 3G capabilities and voice recognition. The watch phone offers HSDPA connectivity, allowing the same high-speed data transmission available on most current smartphones.

LG's GD910 watch phone will offer video calling via its tiny built-in camera and 1.43in screen. Other features include a metal casing, a Flash-based user interface and a music player — and of course the ability to tell the time.

Nathan Dunn, general manager of mobile communications for LG Australia, said the GD910 watch phone is "stylish, sophisticated and undeniably fun."

"This watch phone highlights our commitment to continuing to develop new products and technologies that set the trends in the telecommunication industry," he said. "It also adds the convenience of not having to hunt for your phone in your bag or having to carry a device in your back pocket."

LG confirmed the GD910 watch phone will have voice recognition and text-to-speech technology, allowing it to read out SMS messages and other information. The watch phone also has a built-in phonebook and scheduler.

LG has stated only a "limited quantity" of the watches will be available in Australia; the company hasn't confirmed an exact figure. The touch watch phone will retail outright for $2299 and LG is currently "in the process" of confirming Australian carrier availability.
