• 19 August, 2003 11:45

SCO Authentication 2.1 for Microsoft Active Directory features updated multi-domain support, solid Kerberos security, enhanced real-time synchronization, and support for SCO OpenServer and UnixWare.

Sydney, August 19th 2003

The SCO® Group (SCO) (Nasdaq: SCOX), a leading provider of business software solutions, has announced the release of SCO Authentication 2.1 for Microsoft® Active Directory® with updated security, platform support and scalability.

SCO Authentication for Microsoft Active Directory is a secure, easy-to-use solution for managing a single user account across a heterogeneous UNIX® and Windows® environment. SCO Authentication uses rock-solid Kerberos encryption to protect user credentials and provides central UNIX and Windows user account administration from the Microsoft Management Console.

New Features and Benefits of SCO Authentication 2.1 Include:
* Enhanced Scalability – SCO Authentication now provides support for over 100,000 users per container within Microsoft Active Directory.

* Support for SCO UNIX Operating Systems – Release 2.1 now supports SCO OpenServer 5.0.6 and 5.0.7 and SCO UnixWare 7.1.1 to 7.1.3.

* Support for Microsoft Windows 2003 – SCO Authentication 2.1 now supports Microsoft Widows 2000 and 2003

* Automatic failover to backup domain controller –SCO Authentication automatically locates alternative domain controllers for authentication in the event of a domain controller failure.

* Multi-Domain Support in Active Directory – SCO Authentication fully scales alongside Microsoft Active Directory, including multi-domain implementations.

* Time Synchronization –SCO Authentication automatically synchronizes time between the UNIX and Windows 2000/2003 servers, eliminating the need for manual or Network Time Protocol (NTP) synchronization.

“Identity Management and the prevention of unauthorized access is a crucial issue for global IT departments – particularly those with mixed Microsoft Windows and UNIX environments," said Laura DiDio, senior analyst with the Yankee Group, in Boston. A recent joint Yankee Group/Sunbelt Software, Inc. survey of 400 IT administrators indicated that 11 per cent of companies indicated they were victimized by unauthorized use or modification of company data. And another two per cent of the respondents said hackers stole their customers’ data. The 11 per cent figure does not seem significant until it is compared to 2001 statistics in which only 3 per cent of organizations recorded unauthorized network access. “There's a growing need for authentication software. And SCO Authentication easily integrates UNIX users into Microsoft Active Directory – thus eliminating key security vulnerability, minimizing risk and lowering administration costs.”

“Authentication across multiple platforms is becoming increasingly important as companies look to different systems to manage different parts of their business,” said Jeff Hunsaker, senior Vice President of world-wide marketing, The SCO Group. “SCO Authentication 2.1 provides businesses with powerful authentication in their heterogeneous UNIX and Windows environments. It’s a simple, affordable solution to what has been a complex, expensive problem.”
