HP will offer a free three-month Internet connection with its Pavilion and Compaq Presario range of consumer PCs, under a PC-Internet deal with OzEmail.
The deal is a sweetener that the ISP hopes will attract more users to its service. Now, when users boot up their new HP PC, an OzEmail icon will appear on the desktop as well as the start menu. The computer's Internet setup wizard will also promote the ISP's services.
Users who choose to use OzEmail as their service provider will be able to select from its OzEdsl broadband plans. Alternatively, they can choose an unlimited dialup plan and receive the first three months access free.
Marc Locchi, South Pacific connectivity services manager for the HP personal systems group, said OzEmail had to offer a reliable and diverse range of services to win the deal. "Our focus at HP is on simplifying the connection process for our customers," he said.
OzEmail is the only ISP to appear on the Pavilion range. OzEmail CEO Justin Milne said the promotion is most likely to appeal to first-time Internet users, but also hopes to pick up business from those who want to change ISPs. "The three-month free deal is always extremely popular among users of all experience levels," he said.
