The Director 8.5 book reviewed in the September issue of PC World targeted beginner to intermediate users, but this book focuses more on experienced Macromedia Director developers who are looking to improve their skills further.
With contributions from a range of experienced Director and design professionals, Director 8.5 Studio forms the middle ground of a three-part series from the publisher, sitting above the entry-level Foundation Director 8.5 and below New Masters of Director 8.5.
Navigation through the book's 793 pages is aided by the front Palette (brief chapter overviews), a chapter index and an alphabetic topic index at the back. Users migrating from Flash will appreciate a dedicated appendix for Flash developers.
Chapters are dedicated to lists, object-orientated lingo programming, gaming, databases and XML, imaging, 3D worlds, Director's 3D engine and 3D Modifiers, and particular attention has been placed on sound, video and Xtras.
