Motion controls coming to PC gaming

New controller lets you play Left 4 Dead 2 via gesture recognition

Hardware company Razer is partnering with Sixense Entertainment to bring motion controls to PC gaming. Their first venture is Valve's Left 4 Dead 2.

In a press release sent out today, the companies announced the development of a motion sensing and gesture recognition controller for PCs. The controller uses electromagnetic fields to track movement in 3D and claims to have a one-to-one match up "within a mere millimeter for positioning and to a degree for orientation."

The technology is planned for next-generation games, but the companies say it can work for current-gen games, too. Valve is showcasing the new controller using Left 4 Dead 2 at their CES booth this week.

Here's what L4D2 team lead Chet Faliszek has to say about it in the press release:

"With this controller, Razer and Sixense have created the most immersive [sic] way to play our games. For us and for our customers, this release represents motion-enabled gaming that's more integrated and visceral than any platform has so far achieved."

The product is expected to launch later in 2010.
