'They're not tears, I just have dust in my eye'

New research reveals half of Aussie men have cried over a song

Pull yourself together man, it's just Coldplay

For years, Australian males have cultivated an image of being ruggedly hard macho-types who eat shredded wheat for breakfast. We drink stronger beer than the yanks, fight deadly animals on a daily basis and play rugby without any padding.

In short, we’re a nation of hard drinking, hard living swagmen called Bruce, and we’re damn proud of it.

...Or are we? According to a new poll, all it takes to reduce Aussie men to tears is a few bars of Celine Dion. The Power of Sound survey, conducted by Galaxy Research for Sony Australia, found that 52 percent of Australian males have admitted to crying over a song.

We're talking grown men, reduced to tears, because of the radio.

In other words, Australian males aren't tough at all, but are actually a bunch of sniffling sissies. Hell, even the Leave Britney Alone kid could probably beat us in a square fight.

But let's not despair, eh? The next time you start blubbering like a baby at the sound of Mariah Carey's vocal gymnastics, think of it as your own, personal evolution into a sensitive new age guy. There's absolutely nothing wrong with expressing your emotions. You might want to wear shades at the disco, though.

The poll also found that one in four males feel they need to listen to music while they are cooking. Yep, we also cook apparently. Tch. Oh well, at least we still have Russell Crowe to prop up the rest of the team. [Except he's from New Zealand -- Ed.]
