Swedish music-streaming service Spotify has added a number of social networking features designed to encourage web users to share music.
Spotify users can now connect to Facebook from within the music streaming service. From here, they can see which of their friends on the social network also use the music-streaming service.
Spotify users can then drop tracks into their friends' inboxes as well as discover the playlists their friends have put together.
Other new features on Spotify include a link that lets users share their music choices via micro-blogging service Twitter and the ability to listen to and create playlists containing music stored on your PC as well as the tracks available on Spotify
"I don't believe searching for music by genre works. What does 'neo-soul' mean? But if you knew your friend had great music taste, you'll trust that and listen to that," Spotify co-found Daniel Ek, told The Times.
"This is the next generation of mixtapes. What's a better way to pick songs than by browsing others' music collections? In the future, you can imagine looking through the favourite songs of celebrities. You could see Bono's playlist, for example."
Earlier this year Spotify revealed it has around seven millions users across the six European countries it is currently available in, and of those 320,000 are premium members paying the £10 monthly subscription.
