Canon marks IXUS anniversary with new camera

The Canon IXUS 300 HS will be available in late May to mark the 10-year anniversary of the IXUS brand

To celebrate the ten year anniversary of its IXUS digital compact camera range, Canon has just announced the Canon IXUS 300 HS, which will be available in late May 2010.

The IXUS 300 HS will be available in silver and black, with a red version to be exclusive to Teds Cameras stores Australia-wide. The price of the camera is yet to be confirmed by Canon.

The IXUS 300 HS will feature landmark high-sensitivity technology known as Canon’s HS SYSTEM, which Canon says will enable photographers to take better photos in low lighting conditions. The camera incorporates a new 10-megapixel CMOS sensor (current IXUS cameras such as the IXUS 130 IS have a CCD sensor) as well as Canon’s reputable DiG!C 4 image processor.

Danielle Hinton, Brand Manager of Canon Australia, says that the IXUS 300 HS complements style with innovation, which is what the IXUS brand is known for. “The IXUS 300 HS delivers the highest image quality available in the IXUS range and the new high sensitivity sensor lets users take better photos in a wider range of situations including low-light scenes,” she said.

HD movie shooting capability (up to 1280x720) as well as the My Colour function have been added so budding filmmakers can shoot and create on the go. High-definition video that is shot using the IXUS 300 HS can be easily played back on your HDTV via a HDMI output connector.

The Canon IXUS 300 HS also has a new Super Slow Motion movie function that allows the user to shoot videos that are played back in a slow motion effect. The Super Slow Motion movie captures a subject at 240 fps and play back the footage at 30 fps.

Other features of the camera include a 28mm lens with a 3.8x optical zoom, a 3in widescreen LCD, Eye-Fi memory card connectivity (with which photos and videos can be directly transferred to computers via Wi-Fi) and also Canon’s Smart Shutter technology (which can take a photo when your subject smiles or blinks).
