While getting access to highly-anticipated video games before launch is a luxury that most sane people would never deny, the addition of online connectivity and in-game awards have made the disconnect between a game demo and the final version maddening. While a small handful of games have awarded players for trying the demo first, Microsoft Game Studios' Crackdown 2 is adding a new layer of pre-release reward with the demo for the upcoming open-world action title, which debuts on Xbox Live Marketplace today.
According to the demo announcement, any achievements earned during the demo's play through "will be counted and deferred when you purchase and play the retail game. The release does not mention whether you'll have to play the same scenes and collect the same agility orbs that you do in the demo.
In addition to the achievement-filled demo, Crackdown fans can earn even more bonuses before release by trying out a Facebook-based Crackdown 2 tie-in called "Chuck's Ducks 2." Players of Chuck's Ducks 2 will unlock a new difficulty level for the demo and an additional multiplayer supply of sticky bombs in the final version.
Have any of you downloaded the Crackdown 2 demo yet? Does the ability to earn achievements early affect your intent to purchase the game?
