Canon today unveiled new PIXMA inkjet printers aimed at home users and a Laser Shot printer that targets small businesses. The PIXMA MG6150 and PIXMA MG8150 inkjet printers offer touchscreen interfaces and the ability to capture and print Full HD still images from home movies. The business-focused Laser Shot LBP6000 model boasts increased energy efficiency compared to the model it replaces.

When a compatible camera is connected to the new PIXMA printers via PictBridge they can print HD images from videos. Both models have a maximum print resolution of 9600x2400 DPI. "These new stylish, compact PIXMA all-in-one printers for the home look good and make it easier than ever to get creative," Canon Australia's PIXMA brand manager, Beryl Thomas, said.

Following traditional Canon design as seen on models like the Canon PIXMA MP490 and Canon PIXMA iP4700, the two new printers have a glossy finish and sleek bodies. The PIXMA MG6150 is equipped with a 3in LCD screen, while the PIXMA MG8150 comes with a 3.5in display. Both models use a six-colour ink system, with a dedicated grey cartridge to combat graininess and reduce image fading. The MG8150 is able to scan and print 35mm film slides. Pricing has not yet been announced for Canon's new PIXMA printers, which will be available in October.

The business-oriented Laser Shot LBP6000 offers a quoted print speed of 18 pages per minute and on-demand fuser heating to reducing power wastage. The monochrome laser printer has an RRP of $149 and is available now.
