Ricoh introduces the 5-Megapixel Caplio R1V

 • 24 January, 2005 16:03

New product: Caplio R1V digital camera
RRP: $649
Available: January 2005

The world’s fastest compact digital camera just got better with the release of the Ricoh Caplio R1V. Improving on the highly successful Caplio R1 model, the new R1V features a 5-Megapixel CCD and all the latest high-end features to satisfy even the most discerning photographer.

Equipped with Ricoh’s patented pendulum lens retracting system, the Caplio R1V houses a 4.8x wide-angle optical zoom lens (28-135mm equivalent) within a 25mm ultra slim, aluminium body. Currently there is no other manufacturer that can match Ricoh’s superior wide-angle zoom lens in such a compact body.

Designed to capture the perfect photo every time, the R1V features Ricoh’s unique ‘smooth imaging engine’ processor. This enables the camera to process images at very high speed while using minimal power. Together with the 5-Megapixel CCD, the R1V produces clean, high-quality images with minimal noise - even in large printed formats.

Engineered to capture spontaneous pictures with ease, the R1V takes less than a second (0.853) to start up, focus and snap its subject. The shutter responds in a mere 0.05 seconds and with the focus lock achieved it shoots in an almost instantaneous 0.003 of a second.

The Caplio R1V has an advanced 1cm macro for ultra close-up photos that can still be automatically focused, while the movie mode records high quality continuous AVI video with sound at a full 30 frames per second.

Included in the price of the camera is a super long lasting lithium-ion battery (valued at $200) that can take up to 500 shots from one charge – that’s equivalent to 21 rolls of 24-exposure film and three times the battery life of many digital cameras. Standard AA alkaline batteries can also be used.

The Ricoh Caplio R1V is available now and comes in a champagne or black metal finish. RRP $649 inc GST. Ricoh photographic products are sold through more than 1500 outlets nationally, including leading camera specialists and electronics retailers.
