New Droid Pro security features lead the way

Motorola’s Droid Pro is the first mobile device to ship with a Cisco IPsec VPN solution.

Android has not had the best luck in penetrating the enterprise market, with less than 30 per cent of all enterprise activations, according to the latest survey by Good Technology.

One of the major stumbling blocks has been the lack of VPN support. While Android 2.2 (Froyo) includes some native VPN support, it lacks support for the Cisco IPSec VPN, and has been a source of extreme user frustration.

With the Droid Pro, however, Motorola has teamed up with biometric sensor provider AuthenTec to provide a pre-installed VPN app that is designed to be easy to configure.

Not only is the VPN application the first in the market to support Cisco IPsec, it also covers the full range of VPN solutions: Tunnel mode IPSec, two way certication, IKEv1, IKEv2, and Split Tunneling. These selections cover VPNs from basic native OS support to the high end enterprise devices.

Motorola’s press release details the hopes that the company has for the phone to find a home in the enterprise market.

With the solid foundation of VPN support especially being the first in the market to support Cisco IPsec, the Droid Pro may be able to lead the charge for Android in the enterprise market.
