Internode invests $1.4 million into Adelaide datacentre expansion

ISP continues to hunt for business opportunities

South Australia-based ISP, Internode, has splurged $1.4 million on expanding its Adelaide CBD datacentre to boost customer capacity by 45 per cent.

It is installing 18 high-density hosting racks to facilitate the growth. This will enable the ISP to provide services with up to 10kW rack allocations.

The increased capacity is expected to be available by January next year.

The datacentre was built in 2007 and the expansion will increase the size of the facility by 144 square metres.

The move was motivated by strong demands for cloud computing and remote hosting services.

“We already have a substantial sales pipeline of demand for data centre space,” Internode CEO, Patrick Tapper, said. “With that volume of demand, we anticipate no problem in filling our expanded data centre.”

Internode’s datacentre supports N+1 redundancy which ensures system availability should component failure occur.

This week, the ISP also announced it was expanding its Extreme Symmetric High-speed Digital Subscriber Line (SHDSL) service to Brisbane.
