Vodafone could be sued by over 9000 users

Telco giant facing a major class-action law suit as angry customers prepare a case

Around 9000 Vodafone users have registered their interest in suing the telco for call drop-outs and poor service according to law firm, Piper Alderman.

In late December Piper Alderman issued a call-to-arms to unhappy Vodafone customers encouraging them to join the firm in a class action law suit.

“In the next five to ten business days, we will be sending group members a request for further information relating to their specific circumstances,” the firm said in a statement posted on its website. “Customers who signed up with Vodafone over the last three years may be entitled to compensation if they were misled into signing contracts or if Vodafone did not live up to its end of the bargain.”

Vodafone has been besieged with claims of poor call and customer servicing despite its CEO, Nigel Dews, apologising to users and promising solutions would be in place by March 2011.

Although Vodafone is aware of the lawsuit, it is choosing to focus on its own solutions. A blog posting made by the company on January 4 claimed more than 2500 base stations would be constructed during 2011.

“Between January and March, we will be adding new sites or upgrading existing sites in both our 850MHz network and our 2100MHz network within metro areas – in total approximately 141 sites,” it said. “A number of task force teams are working to continue to resolve the current network issues which have been affecting some customers.”

But despite assurances, many customers remain unsatisfied and have posted negative comments directly to the telco’s website.

“Your companies (sic) customer service is shocking,” one poster said. “Why have I been put on hold for 2.5 hours and been directed from department to department to get my problem sorted?”

“Sort your company out – it is going to the dogs!”
