Google inundated with job applications

75,000 job applications smash search giant's previous record

On 25 January Google's Alan Eustace, senior vice-president for engineering and research, put a call out on the on the company's blog for job seekers to apply for a place at the Mountain View–based search giant. The result? According to a Bloomberg report Google received a record 75,000 CVs in a single week.

The number of resumes submitted exceeded Google's previous record, set in May 2007, by 15 per cent, a spokesperson for the company told Bloomberg.

In November, Google reportedly offered all its employees pay rises of at least 10 per cent. Google lost some notable employees last year; for example, Lars Rasmussen, known for his work on the company's Wave and Maps products left Google for Facebook late last year.
