Snap Appliance Inc Announces Further Investment in Asia-Pacific

 • 03 September, 2003 16:22

Appoints Markom Marketing as PR and marketing agency to grow the brand, while appointing NCR for customer support

Sydney, Australia – September 3, 2003 - Snap Appliance, the world leader in network-attached storage (NAS) solutions, today announced an increased expansion and focus in the APAC region with particular emphasis on Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The Snap brand has been a leader in the Network Attached Storage (NAS) market since entering the region as part of the Quantum storage family of products in 2000. Snap Appliance Inc became an independent company in October 2002 when the company was purchased from Quantum and is now regarded as the dominant worldwide NAS supplier with installations of more than 130,000 units, more than three times the nearest competitor. (Gartner Dataquest, April 2003).

“Gartner cites that in Asia-Pacific overall, 53% of storage systems bought are now of the fabric-attached type, which includes NAS,” said Jim Stewart, International sales director, Snap Appliance. “We consider the APAC region as a significant growth opportunity and as such are keen to make the investment in order to accelerate market penetration and seize an increased market share.”

In a move to increase support for Snap product in the region, NCR will provide Snap’s Asia–Pacific customers with a unique managed services offering. Resources will include access to a 24 x 7 helpdesk, global parts depot and on-site maintenance support, as required. NCR’s Sydney facility is the regional support facility for APAC.

To assist in heightening Snap’s presence, storage PR specialist, Markom Marketing, has been appointed to handle Snap’s public relations activity throughout APAC. In addition to ensuring that press and analysts are kept fully updated on Snap’s activities and have a better understanding of developments in the NAS market, the company will also assist the existing distributors with press campaigns designed to maintain overall brand leadership. Focus will be on the workgroup and mid-range sectors, the latter in which Snap are announcing many new products based around their award winning Linux-based Guardian Operating System. Details on these new products will be forwarded shortly.

“We are delighted to have signed up a proactive PR agency like Markom,” stated Jennifer Sparks, marketing director, Snap Appliance. “We know from past experience that they will help us and our partners achieve our regional objectives and assist the press in having a better understanding of our business,” she concluded.
