Post-Olympics data centre goes for gold

Sydney's Olympic Park is being transformed into a high-tech data centre offering mission-critical utility services for storage area networks and disaster recovery.

Spread over 12.8 hectares the $250 million business park replaces the Olympic International Broadcast Centre used during the Sydney Olympics by 10,000 overseas media.

Construction work has already started and the commercial development will eventually house around 4000 employees, eight stand-alone buildings, 1600 car spaces and the IBC data centre.

The IBC data centre uses the enormous power and communications infrastructure installed before the Olympics, which has 43 megawatts of power and multiple high-speed fibre optic links.

The Valad Property Group has invested $150 million in the data centre which it describes as a "technology fortress with maximum survivability".

Tenants can have a mix of facilities within the one building, such as office space, research and development, warehousing, call centres and diaster recovery centres.

A number of potential tenants are conducting due diligence and Valad expects to make announcements early in the new year.

I need power and lots of it. As a Front End Web developer anything less just won’t cut it which is why the MSI GT75 is an outstanding laptop for me. It’s a sleek and futuristic looking, high quality, beast that has a touch of sci-fi flare about it.

If you can afford the price tag, it is well worth the money. It out performs any other laptop I have tried for gaming, and the transportable design and incredible display also make it ideal for work.
