ShareFile shares files on iOS and Android

Users can browse files from their smartphone and distribute content via ShareFile without having to download it

ShareFile has launched native clients for Apple's iOS and Google's Android OS, allowing smartphone users to access its file sharing service, the company said on Thursday.

It has already launched a smartphone optimized website. But users are wedded to the idea of native applications, and therefore it is something ShareFile has to offer, according to Jesse Lipson, CEO at ShareFile.

ShareFile is pitching its service -- which bears the same name as the company -- as a faster and more secure alternative to FTP for small and medium-sized businesses.

Users who have installed the client will be able browse files and folders and share them via ShareFile without having to download the video file, photo or document. But files can also be downloaded directly to the smartphone.

The mobile client for Android is available today and the iOS version will ship in the beginning of the second quarter, ShareFile said. Both applications are free of charge for users of its service.

ShareFile offers its service at four standard price plans: Basic, Professional, Enterprise and Enterprise Gold. They differ in the number of allowed employee accounts, monthly data transfer volume, storage volume and functionality that is included. For example, the Professional plan costs US$59.95 per month and includes 10 employee accounts, 10GB of transferred data and 10GB of storage. They all include unlimited accounts for clients and partners.
