LG Cinema 3D TVs available in Australia from April

LG Cinema 3D TVs use passive 3D glasses

LG has announced that its range of Cinema 3D plasma and LED televisions will be on sale in Australia from April onwards, with two models already available for purchase. LG’s Cinema 3D TVs will also include a variety of Smart TV Internet features.

LG’s PZ570 series plasma TVs are already in stores — the LG 60PZ570 is a 60in plasma available for $2599, and the 50in LG 50PZ570 only costs $1699. Pricing has also been announced for the range-topping PZ950 series — the 60in LG 60PZ950 is $2899 while the 50in LG 50PZ950 is $1999. Three different series in LG’s LW LED-backlit LCD TV range of Cinema 3D TVs will be available from the end of April, with the LG LW6500 joined by a cheaper LW4500 and high-end Infinia LW9500, although pricing is not yet available for these televisions.

LG’s Cinema 3D TVs use passive 3D — the glasses used in Cinema 3D TVs are cross-polarised like those used in movie theatres, and do not require any battery power to operate — unlike active-shutter 3D glasses which are commonly used in [artnid:344082|3D TVs]] from Sony, Samsung and Panasonic. The use of passive 3D removes the ‘flickering’ effect that occurs when active-shutter 3D glasses are used in a room lit by fluorescent light bulbs. Passive 3D glasses also have the advantage of being much cheaper, with two pairs of glasses available for a recommended retail price of $19. Four sets of glasses will be included with high-end LG TVs.
